DOCUMENTARY DESCRIPTION: “BELIEF”
Part2 Pictures is producing a groundbreaking documentary series that will explore human belief and spirituality around the world. The series is epic in scale, similar in scope to the BBC series Human Planet and Planet Earth. Our series will document - in seven episodes - some of the greatest faith based events on the planet, combined with intimate stories about people on personal spiritual quests.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR A BURNER MAKING THEIR ANNUAL JOURNEY TO BLACK ROCK CITY
We are hoping to follow a Burner who is traveling to Black Rock City this year with a specific intention. We’d like to hear why Burning Man is so important to you at this point in your life. Perhaps you’re building a theme camp, maybe you’re honoring a lost loved one and are looking for a cathartic release or maybe you’re an artist for whom Burning Man is an outlet for your creativity and self-expression or perhaps you are simply seeking a more transcendental experience than your everyday life. Regardless of what your intention may be, we’re interested in speaking with people for whom Burning Man is more than just an amazing party in the desert but a deeper, more meaningful spiritual experience. We understand that Burning Man is important to you and we hope you will grant us the privilege of documenting your experiences there.
ABOUT THE EPISODE: PILGRIMAGES
This hour-long episode will explore pilgrimages across multiple faiths and spiritual traditions around the world. Each of us is on a journey through life, and a pilgrimage is a microcosm of that journey, a quest in search of meaning and spiritual fulfillment. Some undertake pilgrimages to collapse the distance between the physical and spiritual worlds, to strengthen their identity or to enlist divine aid. But what is it that brings us closer to this transcendence? Is it the place or the very act of pilgrimage itself that transforms us? Traditional religious institutions may be the most visible and tacit expression of belief – but with this series, part2 is attempting a more nuanced examination of spirituality and as such we are featuring Burning Man as part of the series. While it is certainly not the case that all burners are seeking a deeper spiritual or transcendental experience at Burning Man, it seems also fair to say that for many the spiritual draw of Black Rock City is as profound and relevant as that found in any church. While no one who comes to Burning Man is told what or how to believe, nevertheless the community it creates is a testament to the connectedness and meaning-making we are all capable of.
